Week 3 of 10 - Colour

Todays life drawing session was focused on colour. We were supposed to spend an hour and a half on one pose. But colour and long poses are so oppositional to what I want to do in a life drawing class at the moment. I am mainly looking to focus on line and gesture. So I found this class a bit awkward as I chose to ignore the 'teacher' and just get on with my own goals. Which I didn't do to be confrontational but that kind of stopped me really relaxing into to the session. I made a bit of a concession and did a fair bit of tonal work on the last drawing but I feel it spoiled what started out as a strong line drawing though. Maybe I just did a bad job of it. All in all I am a bit disappointed. Unfortunately I am sure the following weeks are going to be similarly focused. I'll have to find a way of working around it. I have been really enjoying these sessions but I am a bit worried about next week now . . .

Dude, you worry too much! Longer poses can be a pain 'cause the gestures aren't very lively or spontaneous but hey, the sketches look good. And it's a good opportunity to really study the underlying body muscle and bone structure of the model.
