Type Trouble

Edit: Added right hand layout . Probably final. I'm not sure I prefer it but it seems more functional

Always really unsure of what to do with type and layout. Knowing me this will all change before printing. Some of the text is wrong and the night probably needs a better title . . . . I won't post the final though so hope you like this.

If anyone has any typography/layout suggestions or can point me in the direction of a good book I'd be very grateful.

Edit: Here are some earlier layouts. Looking at them this morning I think I prefer the title text in these . . .

I think it's great. Nice colours.

One of the most important things I learned doing graphic design is that you put elements of a composition into a hierachy of importance using size, colour, space, whatever you have at your disposal.
Look at your poster and think to yourself what is the first thing that people need to see/most important, then second most important, third etc.
If your eye is drawn to the right things in the right order, then you've got your layout/composition just perfect.

Only suggestion I'd make specifically about your poster is, in terms of hierarchy, there isn't much separating all the different bits of text - they all hit you at the same time almost. You could play around with font sizes and weights to create more contrast.

I know I'm not explaining it very well. sorry :(

Thanks Guys

James - Cheers for the tips . That makes a lot of sense. I'll keep that in mind when I try and finish it later.
