Oh my ears and whiskers . . .

Here are the first ten pages of my alice in Wonderland concertina sketchbook.

Pages 7 - 10 - not totally hapy with these. Lost a lot of something from the roughs. I really like the rabbits pose below. Not sure why I didn't use that. Also I think I'm gonna regret using blue pencil here as it will probably cause me problems when I come to doing colour. We shall see.

Down, down, down . . .

Oh dear! I shall be too late!

The first 2 pages commited to the concertina sketchbook

Down the Rabbit Hole

Well I'm still banging away at this and mostly still having fun with it. Having a moment of doubt about my drawing style though as I try to get myself commit to final drawings and layout. I always seem to end up with this disney kind of look and whilst I like it I want to push myself to do something more edgy. Maybe this is me though . . . I don't know. Got to go and cook a beef and chorizo stew now but after that I might spend the rest of the day trying out different approaches. What do you think. I wish I had a bit more confidence.

Sea of Tears

Some mice swimming in a sea of tears . . .

. . . and a purple haze for yesterdays caterpillar. Need to change the design. He needs stubby little arms really. I also need to draw using more angles. I am a bit lazy with the camera.

Warming up

Making some slow but steady progress. Today was my last day at work for the year so I'm looking forward to putting some serious time into this soon. Once all the shopping is done of course.

Scribbles for Alice

These are a few of the pages from my sketchbook over the last couple of days. I should try and get something done for Fourteen Nights blog but I am feeling enthusiastic at the moment about doing some Wonderland drawings. I'm also enjoying drawing in blue. I like the way waxy coloured pencil feels on the paper. I don't like watercolour pencils though, too scratch for me. It's also nice to have a bit of colour, charcol/graphite was starting to bug me with its drabness. Maybe there is just to much grey about at the moment, with all these days of bleak winter skies. Can't wait for the holidays now two weeks drawing and over eating.

Randomness

December in London is damned cold so far and subsequently I've slowed right down. Mostly just huddling and sleeping, dreaming of hibernation. I have done a few drawings though and I did eventually get around to ordering the postcards. I chose Bear vs Ping Pong and Fat Wonder Woman. I'm not really sure what I'll do with them. I am trying to decide what to work on over Christmas. I need a project as I'm not well suited to sitting around in front of the TV. I am thinking of buying a concertina sketchbook and doing a sprawling Alice in Wonderland illustration. We'll see . . .

Postcard?

The company I printed the Christmas card with sent me a tempting offer. 100 postcards, of my design for free (except for postage) so I was looking through some old pictures to see if I had anything I could use . . . what do you think? I suppose it depends what I want them for. Could be like business cards or I had recently been thinking about making some cards for the independent card shop in Balham and seeing if they'd sell. Maybe a comic shop would take the Wonder Woman ones (is there a copyright issue there). Anyway I have to decide by tomorrow so if you have any thoughts be quick.

I still haven't done much drawing lately. In a bit of a slump. I need something to get my teeth in to. I am a bit bored of commuter sketching at the moment.

Christmas Card

So here is the the Christmas card I made this year. Painted in ink and acrylic and enhanced in photoshop. I had 50 printed. It was really nice to get them in the post. The printed colour came out exactly as I'd hoped so I'm pretty happy. Hope you like it too.

Slow

A bit of a slow week for drawing. My Christmas cards have arrived though and I posted the first ones today so I'll try and post that picture tomorrow evening.
