Sketchbook
A selection of sketches from the last two weeks. I've slipped back in to doing lots of random sketches and studies since I got stuck with the second David and Goliath piece. Want to start doing some more focused studies and work towards some finished stuff. This is all good practice though. I learnt quite a bit drawing from Belleville Rendezvous.

A quick test to see if I could get this working. I thought it would be useful for sketchbook dumps.
Thanks very much to Paul Stamatiou for the html

A bit lost

I'm a bit lost with this. I keep shuffling around the frames and whilst it is improving, I am realising is that although I did some decent preparatory sketches I skimped on storyboarding. I didn't do enough iterations to properly evaluate the success of the layouts. I've also been reading the original text and think that there is a lot of good imagery that I overlooked. I guess thats because I was originally trying to do this for Fourteen Nights so two pages seemed achievable. I'm now not sure if I'll continue with this or if I'll take the lessons I've learned and move on a bit wiser. I'm supposed to be working on 'The most rubbish super power ever' . . .Monday, 19 May 2008
a little bit of progress
My USB drive melted on Friday. So I couldn't finish this at home this weekend. I'm happier with the page layout now though. Just need to sort out the details and get on with it . . . and get page two going as well. I am trying to complete the story in two pages. I have all the frames but am havint trouble fitting everything on the second page. Maybe I wasted to much space on this page by making Goliath so big but I think it's worth it.Sunday, 18 May 2008
Sketch book pets
A montage of some of todays studies. I enjoyed doing these. I think I'll take another look at Claire Wendling's studies and try again though. I love the way she draws. She has such a beautiful energetic, thoughtful line. Her website is pretty bad though and it's not easy to find much else about her but there is some good stuff here.
Orangutan!
Something awesome about this. I have been drawing animals this afternoon from flickr. Especially Nikographer [Jon]'s sets. There are lots of great photos. The big cats really stand out. I might post some sketches later.

Rough Layout
A rough layout and colour test for alternative David and Goliath piece. Expecting to make lots of changes but a decent start I think.

Vs
A Lucha take on David and Goliath. A world away from the sketches I've been working on but this was really good fun messing around in photoshop. It did make me think I should learn a vector programme though. Still aiming to finish the other idea I was working on for this theme but not sure I'll have time to finish it.Saturday, 10 May 2008
Ping Pong vs The Bear
This is more like the original idea I had for the David and Goliath theme. I quite like them. Lots of fun to draw. I will try and do a proper illustration, poster style as hinted at at the bottom of the page.

More Goliath sketches

I've done loads of sketches for this fortnights brief. Here are just a few more. Re-uploaded the bottom page as I added quite a lot of new sketches to it.

Sketch Book

Sketches of a possible Goliath for this weeks 'Fourteen Nights' subject. A bit more standard comic book than I want but still lots of time to mess around with ideas.
